Operations and high availability
Installation, patching, backup and recovery, standby databases. In production on Oracle Database Appliance.
Performance and monitoring
Finding and fixing bottlenecks, making metrics visible before they turn into incidents.
Automation
Rollout and patching as code instead of manual work. Repeatable, documented, reviewable.
Other databases
Not only Oracle: SQL Server and MySQL in operation, MariaDB replication for development, PostgreSQL in progress.
Platform and security
Linux and AIX on the database side, security guidelines based on BSI (German Federal Office for Information Security).

Selected work
-
Migration to Oracle 19c and ODA
Moving the production database from Oracle 12c on AIX (IBM Power8) to Oracle 19c on Oracle Database Appliance, 2023. Platform change from AIX/Power to Linux/x86 and upgrade from 12c to 19c.
-
Oracle 19c Data Guard with Ansible
Playbooks for the complete build: prepare the OS, install Grid and database, create primary and standby, configure Data Guard Broker. Zero-downtime patching via switchover, with automatic role detection, rollback and credentials in Ansible Vault.
-
Beyond Oracle
MS SQL Server in daily operation: backup and restore, monthly test database refreshes. Experience with MySQL in production. MariaDB replication on two nodes for the developers.
PostgreSQL in Docker containers and an operations concept for a new PostgreSQL-based application. Oracle 19c RAC cluster in a private VMware lab for hands-on practice: Clusterware, ASM, interconnect, services.
-
Security handbook based on BSI
Written from scratch and maintained for the production Oracle database: hardening, privileges, procedures.
-
Database monitoring
Grafana dashboards for database metrics. Nagios checks in Perl.
-
Workflow core for a business process
Data model design, logic in PL/SQL (stored procedures/packages, triggers), external applications in Java.
